Laura Linney's performance of weak and yet powerful characters has helped make her one of the most popular American actors. Born to a renowned playwright father, but being raised by a single mother who worked as a nurse, she became interested in theatre while working with her father during the summer and eventually pursuing a degree in acting initially in Brown University and then at Juilliard School. Following the graduation, she began an Broadway career. The following year, she began her career in television. Since then, she has appeared in countless films and stage and TV productions. Her nominations include three Academy Awards, five Tony Awards, four Primetime Emmy Awards (including two Golden Globe Awards), and received several awards during her time on the stage. However, despite all the nominations and awards, her enthusiasm for the theatre isn't gone in her, and she continues to perform both onscreen and onstage.
