My son played in the playpen as I sat for 12 hours cleaning the floors, as well as removing the wallpaper. Ha! It was beginning to seem logical, however it wasn't quite done. It would take a great deal of effort and an enthusiasm to shop. To keep the budget in check, I began going to estate sales with three brothers to search for jewels in the rough. Our weekly routine was to walk from Thursday through Saturday through garage sales buying a mixture of antique and brand new furniture and then I would spend the weekdays painting sanding in the driveway. The look was a little similar to this... Here is where my obsession with the restoration of antique furniture began. I kept on restoring furniture long after we decorated our house. I rented a booth on the local market, and also sold items there. Then, my collection got so large that the room I had available was no longer adequate. The number of people who visited my home in just one weekend, to shop for everything on the ground floor. Growing Days is the result of all this. Apart from my successful business, I also had the pleasure of growing our family. Finding the balance was important to me. I wanted to be both a mom and also a successful business owner. Growing Days just seemed to work. My daughter Nora became our fourth daughter. Though I was content about the direction my company took, I felt like I needed to take an occasional break. I opted to take a little time off from my vintage furniture and stay at home with the children. It was exactly what I was looking for at the time. After a couple of months, my phone started to ring. There were calls from people asking me to help them with interior decor and home renovations. Most of them visited my home during my furniture open houses. In the following time, I took on clients according to my schedule. Soon I had numerous accounts as well as a home renovations company. You would probably have made me laugh if you had said that this was going to be the subject of a DIY Network tv series. It's fun to reflect about the idea.
